California-based software developer Macphun (soon to be Skylum) has announced Luminar 2018, a digital photo editor and organizer that's aiming to be a direct competitor to Adobe Lightroom.
Macphun has just announced that it's changing its name to Skylum. The company, which became well-known for its popular photo editing apps for Mac, is expanding to Windows and needed a new name as a result. Company CEO Alex Tsepko announced the rebranding in a post on the official blog.
A day after Adobe announced the new Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic CC, Macphun began teasing the fact that it's currently building a competitor to Lightroom. It'll be a photo manager that'll work with both hard drives and the cloud. The short video above is a sneak peek.
Macphun announced earlier this year that it will be releasing its popular photography software for Windows after focusing on Mac up until now. Today the company made its first big move by launching a free public beta version of Luminar for Windows.
Macphun has launched an update for Luminar Neptune, the company’s photo editing software. Along with speed improvements to the software, the update includes an interesting new filter dubbed "Accent AI."
Photo editing software developer Macphun—in case the name isn't enough of a hint—has been Apple-only since it first arrived on the scene in 2008. But not anymore. This Fall, the company is going to be releasing its best-selling photo editing software on PC.
Macphun just announced a bombshell for the photo editing community. It's called "Luminar," and it's a self-proclaimed "complete photo editing powerhouse" that's built to adapt to your photo editing preferences and skill level.
Skylum, the company that produces the Luminar series of software products, has its main development center in Kyiv, Ukraine. But, despite Russia's invasion upsetting its normal workflow, the company has managed to push an update for Luminar Neo.
Skylum has announced an update for Luminar AI that adds one new feature, addresses multiple bugs, and fixes a major issue with the platform's ability to properly read Canon EOS R5 files.
Skylum recently announced a new editing application called Luminar Neo, but customers who have been loyal for years are confused and frustrated that the company would launch new software rather than support the current Luminar AI.
The photography software company Alien Skin Software announced a major company rebranding today. Henceforth, the company will be known as Exposure Software and its new website can be found at exposure.software.
Adobe recently announced that it would both discontinue downloads of older versions of Creative Cloud apps (which includes Lightroom and Photoshop), and revoke the license for older software. Further, Adobe tweeted that consumers “may face potential claims of infringement by third parties.”
On December 18, 2018, Skylum will be releasing its long-awaited DAM (Digital Asset Manager) for Luminar. Called Luminar 3 with Libraries, this will be a free update for everyone who currently owns Luminar 2018 on Mac and Windows.
After a year of drumming up anticipation and sneak peeks, Skylum today finally announced the availability of Luminar 3. The all-in-one imaging package is both an image editor and library, meaning it's now a direct competitor to Adobe Lightroom.
Skylum Software has been teasing a digital asset management (DAM) update for its Luminar photo editing software that would bring it more in line with the capabilities of Adobe Lightroom, and the company shared this new 41-second teaser video to offer a glimpse of the software's speed.
500px founder Evgeny Tchebotarev is joining Skylum, becoming the new VP of Growth in Asia of the photography software company (formerly known as Macphun) that's behind Luminar and Aurora HDR.
Loupedeck made a splash when the custom photo editing console for Lightroom was announced back in 2016. Today, the company just announced the original console's successor: the Loupedeck+.
Luminar has a new update, and it’s fast! Although I recently published an extensive review of raw processors that included Luminar 2018 v1.1, the new update called Jupiter (v1.2) has significant changes and improvements. I believe it warrants an updated review covering the important changes. So here it is.
Skylum, the company formerly known as Macphun, has just announced the latest version of Luminar, its photo editing Photoshop/Lightroom competitor. Luminar Jupiter brings a major speed boost and over 300+ improvements.
There has been a wave of updates to raw processors recently, including new releases this week from Topaz and ON1. Consequently, it has been difficult for me to finish this review, but developers updating their software is a good problem. Finally, here it is!

To Adobe or not to Adobe. That is the question many photographers are asking with the spate of new image processing programs vying to “kill Photoshop.” I tested more than ten contenders as alternatives to Adobe’s image processing software, evaluating them for the specialized task of editing demanding nightscape images taken under the Milky Way, both for single still images and for time-lapses of the moving sky.
The popular photo editing software Aurora HDR just reached lofty new heights: Apple has selected Aurora HDR 2018 as the Best Mac App of the Year for 2017.
