HP’s New Laptops Are Built for Both Gamers and Content Creators

HP Omen

HP has announced new products in its gaming-oriented Omen and Victus product lines. The new Omen and Victus laptops and Omen monitors promise improved gaming performance. That said, HP also emphasizes the importance of ensuring its gaming products work well for its users’ diverse needs, including content creation.

Gaming computers are often great for photographers and videographers because photo and video-editing applications rely upon the same PC components as the latest videogames, including fast storage, powerful graphics performance, and swift CPUs. Whether an app is GPU or CPU-intensive, a gaming computer is well-suited to deliver high-end performance.

HP Omen Transcend 16 Is HP’s Lightest and Thinnest Gaming Laptop

HP’s new Omen Transcend 16 laptop is “built for gaming and creation” thanks to its cutting-edge screen, premium slim chassis, and high-end performance.

The mini-LED display is the first of its kind on an Omen device and offers HDR 1000 with a peak brightness of 1,180 nits. The display features a 240 hertz (Hz) refresh rate and promises clarity and vibrance in addition to smooth motion. The display has a WQXGA (2560 x 1440) resolution and includes in-plane switching (IPS) technology.

Gamers and content creators alike want a sleek, portable laptop. The new Omen Transcend 16 is the first Omen notebook to incorporate a magnesium frame, resulting in HP’s lightest and thinnest gaming laptop ever. It weighs 4.63 pounds (2.1 kilograms) and is just 0.78 inches (19.9 millimeters) at its thinnest.

Despite its svelte form factor, the laptop still pushes performance boundaries with up to an Intel 13th Gen Core i9 13900HX mobile processor and up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPUs. The Omen Gaming Hub intelligently allocates power between the CPU and GPU to ensure optimized performance.

It uses advanced Omen Tempest Cooling and a new square vent design to keep the notebook cool under heavy workloads. HP says the new design allows significantly improved airflow.

For even more performance, the new HP Omen 16 is HP’s “most powerful” Omen 16 yet, with a generation-over-generation improvement of 119 percent frames per second (fps) in the popular and demanding PC game Cyberpunk 2077.

The Omen 16 is powered by up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900HX, like the Omen Transcend 16, or up to an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS mobile processor. Graphics are powered by up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 laptop GPU.

Unlike the WQXGA display, the Omen 16’s 16-inch display delivers Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. It also lacks HDR functionality, with its peak brightness reaching 240 nits. Due primarily to its display, the standard Omen 16 is better suited to just gaming than photo and video editing when compared to its “Transcend” sibling.

Both notebooks offer up to 32 gigabytes (GB) of DDR5-5600 MHz RAM and up to 2 TB of PCIe Gen4 NVMe TLC M.2. SSD storage. While great for gaming, the high-performance RAM and SSD storage is also great for photo and video editing apps.

The notebooks include an all-new Full HD camera with a manual shutter door for security. The “Transcend” model specifically works with Windows Hello Facial recognition to deliver a secure, quick biometric login option.

The notebooks also work with HyperX headsets out of the box, thanks to a built-in audio pairing module. This is the first time Omen and HyperX have partnered on a feature like this. The new feature promises seamless and “impeccable” audio out of the box when using the HyperX Cloud II Core Wireless Gaming Headset, an optional add-on for the Omen 16 laptops.

As for additional connectivity, both notebooks feature Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless communications.

The Omen Transcend 16 has a pair of Thunderbolt 4 with USB Type-C (40Gbps) ports plus two USB Type-A ports, one of which has HP Sleep and Charge. The laptop’s other ports include ethernet, dual headphone/microphone, an HDMI 2.1, and charging.

Ports on the standard Omen 16 differ depending on whether the user purchases the Intel or AMD model. For the Omen 16, the Intel variant includes a single USB Type-C port, a USB Type-A port with HP Sleep and Charge, a pair of standard USB Type-A ports, ethernet, headphone/mic combination, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a charging port. The AMD version swaps one of the standard USB Type-A ports for a second, faster USB Type-C port (10Gbps versus 5Gbps).

HP Victus 16 Laptop Delivers High Performance in a Mainstream Notebook

HP knows that it’s not just hardcore gamers that play video games. The new Victus 16 laptop promises the performance required for versatile use cases, including gaming, schoolwork, entertainment, and content creation.

The Victus 16 borrows Omen’s Tempest Cooling solution (on select models) to ensure improved cooling performance, which results in better performance under heavy compute loads.

With up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13700HX mobile processor or AMD Ryzen 7 7840S mobile processor, the Victus 16 offers impressive performance. Users can purchase the Victus 16 with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU.

The Victus 16 may not sport the magnesium frame of the new Omen Transcend 16. Still, it comes in various stylish colors, including mica silver, performance blue, and ceramic white. It also has a one-zone RGB keyboard option.

New Omen Monitors Deliver Resolution and Speed

Alongside the new gaming laptops, HP has refreshed its Omen monitor lineup, headlined by the new Omen 27k gaming monitor. The new display has HDMI 2.1 support and Omen’s first-ever KVM switch. The 4K monitor offers up to DCI-P3 95% color gamut, a 144Hz refresh rate, and ARGB lighting.

Other new Omen displays, including the Omen 24, Omen 27, Omen 27q, Omen 32q, and Omen 32c, all feature 165Hz refresh rates and plug-and-play connectivity. The Omen 27s and Omen 27qs offer up to 240Hz refresh rates. There’s also the new Omen 34c, which sports a 1500r curved screen with a wide 21:9 aspect ratio.

Each new Omen monitor includes HDR and AMD FreeSync Premium functionality. All monitors also feature a stand with height, tilt, and pivot adjustments.
