Sigma Adds 20mm f/1.4 and 24mm f/1.4 Lenses for Sony E and Leica L
Sigma has announced two new primes that bolster its lineup of wide-angle options for full-frame Sony E-mount and Leica L-Mount cameras: the 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art and the 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art.
The World’s First 20mm f/1.4 Lens Designed Exclusively for Mirrorless
The 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is a full-frame, wide-angle prime lens designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras. Sigma says it is the first and only lens of this specification that is available for full-frame prime lenses that has been specifically designed for mirrorless, but does join its 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art in speed and focal length.
It is constructed of 17 elements in 15 groups, two of which are SLD elements and three are aspherical elements. It features an aperture range from f/1.4 through f/16 via an 11-bladed diaphragm. The lens weighs 635 grams (22.4 ounces), has a minimum focusing distance of 9.1 inches, is dust and splash-resistant, and is compatible with Sigma’s USB dock. The 20mm f/1.4 is also compatible with Sony’s AF assist function (E-mount only) as well as lens aberration correction found on select cameras. It also features a configurable AFL switch and an aperture ring lock switch. The aperture ring can also be de-clicked.
Sigma says the lens offers superb optical clarity from corner to corner, outstanding build quality with a dust and splash-resistant structure, and is designed to support astrophotography through optimized performance. On that last note, Sigma says the lens “rigorously” suppresses various optical aberrations such as sagittal coma flare and image distortion to produce highly-detailed images with exceptional sharpness and accuracy from the center to the corners.
The lens allows photographers to use front-mounting filters (via the 82mm threads) despite its wide angle and speed but also comes with a rear filter holder that Sigma says allows photographers to have the freedom to combine different filters together for a variety of shooting situations.
It features a new Manual Focus Lock (MFL) switch that turns off the focus ring, which Sigma says makes it easier to concentrate on the shoot without worrying about accidentally changing the focusing distance.
The 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art also has a lens heater retainer, meaning that lens heaters used to prevent internal condensation as the temperature drops on long night shoots will stay securely attached to the barrel without protruding into the image area.

The 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Redesigned for Mirrorless
The Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art has been designed specifically for use on mirrorless cameras, but is based on the design of its predecessor. Still, Sigma says that this new version of the lens offers improved sharpness from edge-to-edge, enhanced portability, and — like the 20mm f/1.4 — adds other useful features such as a manual aperture ring that can be de-clicked for video use.
The optic is constructed of 17 elements in 14 groups including two FLD, one SLD, and four aspherical lenses. It features an aperture range of f/1.4 through f/16 via an 11-bladed diaphragm. The lens weighs 520 grams (18.3 ounces), has a minimum focusing distance of 9.9 inches, is dust and splash resistant, and is compatible with Sigma’s USB dock. The 20mm f/1.4 is also compatible with Sony’s AF assist function (E-mount only) as well as lens aberration correction found on select cameras.
Sigma says the optical arrangement suppresses aberrations such as sagittal coma flare, ghosting and flares, and the use of Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating (NPC) allow the lens to deliver what Sigma calls a “visual punch” even in backlit conditions and near maximum aperture.
The company touts the 24mm f/1.4’s small size as one of its most compelling benefits: it is a scant 3.0 by 3.8 inches.
Like the 20mm f/1.4, the 24mm f/1.4 accepts both front and rear-mounted filters via front filter threads (72mm) and a rear filter holder. It also has the same MFL switch that disables the focusing ring, a configurable AFL button, and an aperture ring lock switch. The same lens heater retainer found on the 20mm f/1.4 can also be found on the 24mm f/1.4.
