Real or Fake: Tom Brady’s Epic Hole-in-One Caught by FPV Drone
Tom Brady went viral this week after he posted a video to his social media channels showing him hitting an epic hole-in-one on the golf course.
The slick video was captured by a first-person-view (FPV) drone which flew behind Brady just as he hit the shot and then followed the golf ball as it flew in the air and perfectly dropped into the hole on the green.
Brady and his team posted the video with the caption: “This is why you film every shot on the course…”
His entourage can be heard saying, “That’s looking good,” and “That’s in the hole.” Brady then celebrates wildly as if he’d just thrown a ball to his teammate in the end zone.
The Tampa Bay Buccanneers quarterback is gearing up for “The Match” where he will compete in a game of golf against fellow NFL quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes.
The stunt has some questioning whether this is Brady sending a message to his rivals, or is this just a public relations move to promote the celebrity golf match. It also has some questioning if the shot actually happened or if it was staged.
Reasonable Doubt
Michael Hurley from CBS News wrote: “For one, he tagged the video editing team — Shadow Lion — that makes all of his fake videos. Secondly, he immediately dropped links under his initial tweet so people would buy his Brady-branded golf clothing.”
Hurley is referring to a video posted to Brady’s Instagram in July 2021 where the quarterback is seen throwing a ball directly into a JUGS passing machine a miraculous three times.
Social media was awash with criticism for Brady with commentators livid at the 44-year-old.
“That’s supposed to be real? Even the celebration looked fake. Brady tries so hard (to sell merch). It’ll never work.” wrote David Zimmer.
While another Twitter user added: “Why does the GOAT feel the need to continuously put out fake, clickbait edits like this?”
For his part Brady denies any fakery, speaking to the Athletic he said: “It was a once-in-a-lifetime shot, that’s for sure.”
But he added that it wasn’t really a hole-in-one, “because it wasn’t really a par 3,” Brady said to reporters on a Zoom call.
“We were in the middle of the fairway on a par 4, and I would have had to play the whole round for it to be a real hole-in-one. It was a once-in-a-lifetime shot, that’s for sure, but it wasn’t a hole-in-one unfortunately. I can’t claim that.’
Whether the video is real or not, it has racked up nearly four million views on Brady’s Twitter and a further 10.8 million on his TikTok.
