BenQ Unveils 34-Inch Ultrawide Color-Accurate Monitor

BenQ has announced the PD3420Q, a 34-inch, 2K resolution, 21:9 ultra-wide, HDR design monitor that covers 100% of sRGB and 98% of P3 color spaces. The company promises out-of-the-box color accuracy powered by BenQ’s AQCOLOR technology.

The monitor offers a 3440 x 1440 pixel WQHD resolution with VESA DisplayHDR 400 support on a panoramic, frameless 34-inch panel. The ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratio provides 33% extra horizontal surface with higher pixel-per-inch density than 16:9 QHD displays. Note: this is a flat panel, not curved. BenQ opted for a flat panel to prevent lines from skewing which allows for better reproduction of images.

Ultrawide monitors are generally seen as an alternative to a dual-monitor setup. BenQ has embraced this, as the PD3420Q can work in 16:9 and 5:9 partitions side by side.

BenQ touts its AQCOLOR technology as capable of “supreme color breadth, depth, and accuracy.” Using this technology, the PD3420Q can display 1.07 billion colors with 99% coverage of sRGB and 98% of DCI-P3, and average Delta E ≤ 3. The company says that each ultrawide monitor is individually factory-calibrated, Pantone Validated, and Calman Verified. BenQ says that results are further supported by ICCSync for ICC profile matching, Uniformity Technology for screen consistency, and HDR10 / SMPTE ST 2084.

The monitor uses an IPS LED backlight system, promises a 5ms response time and a 60Hz refresh rate, and only supports one HDR profile: HDR10. It features two HDMI 2.0 ports, one full-size DisplayPort, a USB 3.1 Hub (four downstream and one upstream), and a single USB Type-C port with 65 watts of power delivery. That USB-C port can be used by Mac computers as the single point for connectivity as well.

The monitor is equipped with the ability to view content in CAD/CAM, Animation, Darkroom, DualView, and M-Book modes. BenQ’s unique Hotkey Puck Gen 2 eases workload with shortcuts to preferred settings and the PD3420Q includes KVM switching capability and PIP/PBP (Picture-in-Picture/Picture-by-Picture) modes. The monitor also features a proprietary low blue light that is flicker-free which, when combined with anti-glare coatings, BenQ says makes it easier to use it for long periods of time by reducing fatigue.
