Panasonic Confirms Full-Frame S5 to Be Unveiled Sept. 2nd

Panasonic has officially confirmed that it will be announcing the new full-frame mirrorless LUMIX S5 camera through an online launch event on September 2nd.

The camera is rumored to be an entry-level body that sits below the $2,000 S1, $3,700 S1R, and $4,000 S1H. It may offer many of the same features as its higher-end counterparts in a smaller body and with a smaller price tag.

Rumored features and specs of the S5, according to Nokoshita, include a 24-megapixel sensor, 2.36-million-dot EVF, 7fps continuous shooting, 5-axis in-body image stabilization, a vari-angle touchscreen, 4K/60p video in 10-bit 4:2:0, 4K/30p video in 10-bit 4:2:2, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and dual SD card slots.

The camera will reportedly weigh 1.6 pounds (714g) with a battery, down from the 2.25 pounds (1,021g) of the S1.

Here’s a spec document leaked by Nokoshita:

“Panasonic is committed to meeting the passionate demands of all creators through its LUMIX brand, and the new LUMIX S5 is one of the embodiments of this commitment,” Panasonic says.

The Panasonic LUMIX S5 launch event will be streaming through this page on Panasonic’s website at 10AM EDT on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020.
