Gannett Just Launched Its Own Photo Licensing Platform –Poynter

Watch out, Getty. Gannett has launched a platform that makes original images from USA Today and its 109 local newsrooms available to paying customers. […] It’s notable that Gannett is leveraging its local newsrooms in this platform. Photographs from the modest to mid-sized cities that Gannett’s publications represent don’t often appear on other photo wire services and can be expensive to purchase on a per-image basis.

The service is called Imagn, and it aims to provide 600,000 photos per year (from 10,000 sporting events by 300 sports photographers) at first before ramping up to 1.8 million per year down the road.
