3,700 Unpublished Marilyn Monroe Shots, With Full Copyrights, Up for Sale
A trove of 3,700 unpublished photos of iconic movie star Marilyn Monroe, each with full copyright included, will go up for sale at a Los Angeles auction late this month.
In an unusual move, each image will come with full copyright, meaning buyers can make and license reproductions to their hearts’ content.
“It’s a big, big deal. It’s like selling the recipe for Coca-Cola,” Profiles in History owner Joseph Maddalena tells the Huffington Post.
The photographer’s son, Joshua Greene, says his father surrendered the images and copyrights as part of a “bad business deal.”
Greene was one of Monroe’s most trusted photographers, with the two doing 55 photo sessions together during the 1950s.
Besides the Monroe images, the auction collection documents dozens of Hollywood moments, from Faye Dunaway on the set of “Bonnie & Clyde” to Linda Lovelace shooting the pornography groundbreaker “Deep Throat.” Images will be sold in 268 lots of varying sizes, expected to fetch anywhere from $1,000 to $15,000 each.
