Canon Japan Releases the Rumored ‘White Kiss,’ a White Version of the Rebel SL1

After a couple of teasers from Canon Korea and Canon Japan, the promised ‘white kiss’ camera officially arrived last night. Unfortunately, it seems the camera turned out to be the least exciting of the options rumor sites were bandying about: a white version of the Rebel SL1 that is otherwise unchanged.

The camera claims the title of first ever white Canon SLR, and for now is only set to release in Japan. Interested buyers in the region will be able to pick one up starting the 28th of November in a kit with either the standard 18-55mm lens, or a matching white version of the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens. At the end of last week, Canon Korea teased a new camera in an ad that showed what seemed to be a DSLR hidden behind a semi-see through sheet. A Canon Rebel T2i Fit for a Stormtrooper

Leica charges thousands of dollars extra for its limited edition white cameras, but a Boston-based photo enthusiast named Andrew successfully customized his camera for only a few dollars by going the DIY route. After spending two hours strategically placing green painters tape onto his Canon Rebel T2i DSLR using a razor, he hung the camera by the strap mount and applied six coats of white spray paint and three coats of matte clear.
