Most of these photos get just enough media attention to keep HTC in the news coming up on the Tuesday press event, but the latest photo (top) has the photography world in a bit of a stir. That’s because it depicts a Canon lens, leading some sources to speculate that the HTC One will feature Canon DSLR lens add-ons. Read more…

PlayMemories Teaser Site Offers Glimpse into What Sony Camera Apps Will Be Like playmemories1 mini

We’re in the year of the camera’s app. Not the camera app, which you use on your phone, but the camera’s app, which is found on your camera. A boatload of new cameras this year will have Internet connectivity and app support built right in, giving photographers access to all kinds of custom features and functions that weren’t easily available in the old age of cameras.

While Android is one of the big operating systems manufacturers have gravitated towards, Sony has decided to go the Sony way and make its system proprietary. Instead of running Android, the Sony NEX-5R and the NEX-6 will offer apps through the PlayMemories ecosystem.

Are Olympus’ Marketing Stunts Becoming a Habit?

Are Olympus Marketing Stunts Becoming a Habit? olympusmarketing

You might remember the Olympus marketing stunt from a few weeks ago when they sent a box complete with two walnuts and a note that simply read “coming soon” to a few different tech blogs. Since then we’ve seen the release of the new TG-1, but apparently Olympus isn’t done with either their new releases or the marketing stunts that go along with them.

Sadly, their most recent note to TechRadar came without finger food, but instead simply read:

“A portrait! What could be more simple and more complex, more obvious and more profound.”

This time around we won’t speculate as to what the note is hinting towards (although some believe it’s a 75mm portrait lens that’s been in production for some time) but feel free to deliberate away in the comments down below.

The Big Hands: Yet Another Teaser for Nikon’s Mirrorless Camera?

All signs point to a Nikon mirrorless camera announcement at midnight tonight and, after Nikon’s strange “I AM COMING” proclamation yesterday, another strange teaser has emerged that appears to be related to the camera. People in Europe have received postcards with the words “THE BIG HANDS”, and a link to the website thebighands.com.

The video above was also uploaded to YouTube a couple days ago, showing gigantic sculptures erected around the world that appear to show hands holding a small invisible camera. Maybe after the announcement giant Nikon mirrorless cameras will be placed in the hands…

Nikon Says I Am Coming, Counts Down to Mirrorless Unveiling nikoncomin

Nikon has set up a teaser page titled “I AM COMING”, with a countdown that ends on Wednesday September 21. With all the rumors that have been floating around, it would be pretty shocking if this wasn’t the company’s mirrorless camera announcement. Looks like Nikon couldn’t snag the domain name “iamcoming.com”, though — the teaser is at iamcomings.com.

Canon Plans to Announce Something “Historic” on November 3rd

Canon Plans to Announce Something Historic on November 3rd canon

Canon sent out this teaser yesterday stating that it’s going to be making some kind of game-changing announcement on November 3rd. Since the location is Hollywood, it seems more likely that it’ll be some kind of camera for filmmaking rather than a mirrorless camera. Filmmaker Philip Bloom thinks it’ll be an EF and PL mount camcorder with a Super 35mm sensor (possibly offering 4K resolution).

While we’re on the topic of Canon announcements, TechRadar wonders whether Canon is planning to discontinue the Canon G series after the company unveiled the powerful PowerShot S100 yesterday. Perhaps the line will be replaced with a mirrorless camera series?
