There's a new camera that needs to be in the conversation now when discussing the best full-frame sensors on the market. DxOMark has published its review of the new Panasonic Lumix S1R, and the camera tied the Nikon D850 and Sony a7R III for the top score among all 35mm cameras.

A few years ago, I was embarrassingly very vocal about how disappointed I was about some of the Nikon lenses. I've been using Nikon cameras and lenses for decades and although I was very pleased with the image quality and color rendition their cameras produced, I strongly considered jumping the Nikon ship in search of crisper, cleaner looking lenses.
It looks like the hype surrounding the new Sony a7R II is justified... at least when it comes to sensor quality. DxOMark tested backside-illuminated full-frame sensor in the camera -- a world's first -- and the sensor received the highest overall quality score ever awarded by the testing lab.
DxOMark published its sensor test scores for the 50.6-megapixel Canon 5DS and 5DS R DSLRs today, and the news is both good and bad for Canon shooters. On the good side, the cameras scored the highest scores (87 and 86, respectively) ever achieved by Canon sensors. On the other hand, they still lag behind the Nikon D810 and Sony a7R (97 and 95, respectively) in overall quality.
It seems like Nikon is doing the right things when it comes to putting quality sensors in its cameras. Gear testing company DxOMark has just announced that it has found the new Nikon D7200 to have the best sensor quality among all APS-C cameras. It's "the new APS-C champ," the testers write.
Nikon's new entry level full frame DSLR, the Nikon D600, is supposed to be a lightweight camera with heavyweight image quality. DxOMark confirms it to be true. The camera equipment measurement company has announced its sensor quality results for the D600, and the score is sure to put a big smile on the faces of Nikonians around the world. Rated at an overall score of "94", the camera received the third highest score ever, and falls in third place behind the D800 and D800E -- cameras that cost roughly $1,000 more.
