Citizen Journalism Photo Agency Demotix Snatched Up by Corbis

Corbis, one of the largest photo agencies in the world, has agreed to acquire Demotix, a crowd-sourced citizen journalism photo agency that was founded in 2008. Corbis had already picked up a piece of the young agency through an investment last year, but now it has decided to purchase the whole company outright. The acquisition price was not disclosed.

Google Snaps Up Snapseed, Now Ready to Battle Facebook’s Instagram

Nik Software announced today that it has been acquired by Google. The company is the maker of Snapseed, one of the most popular photo editing apps in the iTunes App Store and a competitor to Instagram.

Pentax Now Officially a Ricoh Company

Back in July, we reported that Hoya had agreed to sell the Pentax camera business to Ricoh for roughly $124 million. The deal was completed over this past weekend, and now the business is officially called the “Pentax Ricoh Imaging Company”. Ricoh wanted Pentax — currently the 10th largest digicam brand — for its SLR technologies, so we might be seeing some increased activity from Ricoh and Pentax in the DSLR market very soon.
