Digital view cameras can be quite pricey, but if you have an old analog view camera and a DSLR sitting around, you can combine the two cameras to make a DIY frankencam. Northlight Images has a tutorial for doing this with Canon DSLRs, and Nikon Rumors has a tutorial for Nikon shooters (either tutorial should work for you regardless of which brand you use). The resulting rig allows you to take advantage of the tilt and shift features of view cameras.

Entry-level full frame rumors are certainly getting their time in the spotlight today. Immediately following rumors that the 7D Mark II might become the Canon FF entry-level we’ve all been waiting for, we now have the first pictures of Nikon’s D600. Initial rumors about the entry-level full frame, which is supposed to be the true sequel to the D700, were met with significant reservations, but these pictures seem to leave no more doubt that the camera really is in the works. We’re gonna call this rumor “significantly farfetched,” but stranger things have happen and we’d hate to miss out on this one just in case somehow it comes to fruition. Someone personally told the folks over at Northlight Images that Nikon and Canon are swapping some patents, the result of which will be a Nikon camera with an EF mount.

It’s certainly not as strange or unexpected as their possible move into the world of cosmetics, but rumors are now floating around that Nikon is getting serious about making video cameras. In an interview with TechRadar, a spokesperson for Nikon UK said that Nikon “is not a broadcast company… yet.” He went on to imply that they may be breaking into broadcast depending on the feedback they continue getting from their friends in the industry.
There’s no concrete evidence that we’ll be seeing something anytime soon, but other rumors that Nikon has been showing off a full-frame video camera concept to some pro cinematographers seems to indicate that Nikon’s move into professional video is further along than the spokesperson initially implied.

The latest rumor circulating around the “entry-level full-frame” topic is that Nikon may shying away from Sony when it comes to getting a full-frame sensor for the rumored D600. The rumor came as a result of an article on the Italian website MarsicaLive, which stated that Aptina Imaging is designing a new full-frame CMOS sensor for DSLRs; they also write that — according to unconfirmed rumors — the sensor is being designed specifically for Nikon. Although this is the first full-frame sensor designed by Aptina, Nikon is already familiar with the company as the V1 mirrorless camera already uses one of Aptina’s sensors.

Rumors are beginning to fly about of a cheaper, entry-level, full-frame DSLR coming from Nikon later this year. The new camera, which people are speculating will be called the D600, would be the true replacement for the D700. The D800, then, would fulfill promises from Nikon officials that it would be “a whole new category of camera,” and not a D700 replacement.
Even rumored specs are still pretty hard to come by, but according to Nikon Rumors the D600 would be marketed as an entry-level full-frame, would come with an in-camera raw editor, automatic DX crop mode, dual SD card slots, built-in timelapse and possibly integrated GPS.

Over the past week there have been several complaints lodged against Nikon claiming that the LCD screen on the D4 and D800 has a green cast when compared to the older models. Nikon, however, has responded by claiming that the D3s and D700 models were in fact the less accurate pair. According to Nikon Rumors, Nikon tech support is blaming the LCD on the D3s and D700, asserting that its higher display color temperatures leads to blue tinted images. Read more…
