Looks like Canon has some serious plans to jump into the mirrorless camera market. The company’s G1X camera announced last month has a sensor large enough to compete with existing mirrorless cameras, but lacks an interchangeable lens system. A new patent filed by the company, however, reveals a new 18-45mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens for an APS-C mirrorless camera. It was filed back in 2010, so it seems that the company has been working on a mirrorless camera for quite some time now.

Here are the first full photographs of Olympus’ new OM-D series Micro Four Thirds camera, the EM-5 (with an optional battery grip attached). The images were published to Amazon Japan before quickly being taken down. The camera is expected to become official on Wednesday, so we’ll have a full spec list in a couple days.

Pentax officially announced its new K-01 mirrorless camera today after leaked photos emerged yesterday. The system features the world’s thinnest interchangeable lens: a 40mm lens that’s just 1cm thick. The body, on the other hand, isn’t exactly the sleekest camera we’ve seen. It’s designed by “acclaimed and influential” designer Marc Newson, who hadn’t designed a camera before this one (he spends much of his time designing airplanes). The camera features a 16.28MP sensor, an ISO range of 100-25600, 1080p video recording at 30/25/24fps, and an aluminum body available in yellow, black, and white. The system starts shipping next month, with the body priced at $750, the lens priced at $250, and the combo priced at $900.

Pentax is on the verge of announcing a new mirrorless camera called the K-01. It’ll be a K-mount camera with the same 16.3MP sensor as the K-5, and will come with a crazy 40mm lens that’s less than 1cm thick (it looks more like a body cap). It’ll feature a 3-inch LCD screen, HD video recording, a pop-up flash, and a design by famous industrial designer Marc Newson. The camera will reportedly be unveiled officially tomorrow at a launch event in London.

A clearer picture is emerging of what the Fujifilm X-Pro1 will cost when it’s finally on store shelves. The camera is now available for preorder over on Amazon Japan for the price of ¥135,000 (~$1,743). This suggests that the US price will be in the range of $1,600-$1,700. The lenses will likely be in the range of $600-$700 each. A PDF version of the owner’s manual has also been released, and should be interesting to anyone who wants a closer look at how the camera works.

Wells Fargo Advisors is becoming a pretty reliable source for news regarding cameras before they’re actually announced. Just weeks after the Fujifilm X-Pro1 and Nikon D4 were announced early by the service, the soon-to-be-announced Olympus OM-D camera is now semi-official as well. The wire confirms that Olympus will be reviving its old OM brand for SLR cameras through a new line of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, and that the camera will sell for over ¥100000 (~$1300) in Japan. It also states that the new camera will resemble the Olympus OM-1 film SLR camera — originally launched in 1973 — and be equipped with high-speed autofocus (rumored to be the fastest of all mirrorless cameras) and image stabilization.

In this case, the press release wasn’t published before it was supposed to — it’s simply a Japanese news source confirming that it had also heard about the new camera and upcoming announcement.
The Nikon D4 wasn’t the only upcoming camera to have its photos and details leaked today: Fujifilm’s retro-styled system camera also got the same treatment. Réponses Photo (the French magazine that leaked the D4) has leaked an article about the Fujifilm X-Pro1 — previously believed to be called the X1 or LX10. A press release about the camera also appeared on Wells Fargo’s website (screenshot here). We now know that the camera will offer a custom 16MP CMOS sensor, use Fujifilm’s EXR processor technology, feature a second-generation hybrid viewfinder, and be launched with 3 fast prime lenses (18mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4, and 60mm f/2.4).

This is the latest leaked photo of Fujifilm’s upcoming interchangeable lens camera, reportedly called either the X1 or LX10. The camera will probably be closer in size to the X100, though it will have an all black look that resembles the X10. There also appears to be some kind of handgrip on the camera, something that seemed likely after handgrip mounts were spotted in earlier leaked photos. We’ll probably see an official announcement sometime in the next month or two.

Olympus has something big up its sleeve. In an interview with Impressjapan, manager Mr. Ogawa revealed that the company is working on a new mirrorless camera that features an “epoch-making” viewfinder — presumably one that’s even more advanced than the hybrid viewfinder found on the Fujifilm X100. The upcoming viewfinder sounds like it’ll also be some kind of fusion between electronic and optical. There’s not much that’s know about the technology at the moment, but we should be hearing more about it very soon.
