David Talley is a 19-year-old fine art photographer who has attracted a sizable following on Flickr through his dreamlike portraits and self-portraits. He often spends a good deal of time and energy setting up his shots. For the photograph above, Talley and his buddy hauled a huge door nearly a mile to the beach.

Here’s an old-ish video that’s been making the rounds again lately (viral videos are like viruses — they don’t go away very easily). Titled “Camera shutter speed synchronized with helicopter blade frequency,” it shows what can happen when your camera is synchronized with the RPM of a helicopter’s rotor blades. The resulting footage makes the helicopter look as though it’s just floating in the air!

The app is a touch-free heart rate monitor that can accurately tell you your pulse by simply looking at your face through your phone’s camera.

Photographer Shawn Van Daele has launched a beautiful (and meaningful) photo project called “The Drawing Hope Project” in which he shoots magical photographs based on the drawings of children living with health conditions. The photo shoots take 1-2 hours, but combining the images in post-production takes up to 8.

Video effects team Corridor Digital created this clever short film titled “Photoreal” featuring a magical Canon DSLR that creates floating planes of frozen reality.

Flickr user TigTab creates beautiful scenes by light painting with hand-cut stencils. For each shot, the camera’s shutter is left open while she moves about the location, firing her flash through the stencils in various locations to add the individual items to the scene. Some photographs take up to four hours to create from start to finish.

The new BlackBerry 10 operating system was unveiled BlackBerry World 2012 today, and one of the amazing new features that wowed the crowd was the camera app. It features a seemingly-magical “timeline” lens that lets you rewind sections of photographs in order to recover moments that your fingers weren’t fast enough to capture. Did your subject blink in the photo? No worries… simply rewind their face and you’re good to go! Basically, the camera is constantly capturing frames as soon as the app is loaded, so there’s always a small buffer of previous moments stored for you to recover.

Steven Alan and Ben Boutwell made this clever little short of themselves taking photos with a magical picture frame. It’s titled “Frame of Mind”.
Photographer Rachel Hulin has a cute project titled The Flying Series that consists of photos of her infant son Henry flying. Hulin tells TIME,
Speaking to some of the unusual body positions of her flying offspring, Hulin said, “I never throw him, and I never move him into a place in the frame that he wasn’t in to begin with. I like Henry to fly the way he feels like it, I never pose him in a specific way. Sometimes he’s graceful and sometimes he’s a little hunchback. I think telling you more would ruin it.” [#]
While she’s keeping quiet on her technique, which she says is “more subtraction than addition”, we think it’s similar to Pat David’s bouncing baby technique that we featured a while back.
