Swedish photographer Mattias Burling recently decided to experiment with shooting 4K video with his Microsoft Lumia 950 smartphone... through his collection of Nikon SLR lenses. Using an old 35mm adapter, Burling put together a rig that lets him shoot with a Nikkor 25mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.4, and 17-35mm f/2.8.

"This was a fun experiment taking advantage of the 4K video in the Lumia 950 and its awesome close focus distance," Burling says. "I used old Nikon glass and an old s35 adapter from the 'DV Days'."

If you thought that 41-megapixel camera in the Lumia 1020 was a bit... excessive... then you're probably going to find the newest rumors about the 1020 followup a bit crazy. Apparently Microsoft intends to pack even more megapixels onto the next camera's sensor, making it far and away the highest resolution camera phone in the world.

Future iterations of the already-impressive Nokia Lumia PureView cameras might sport Canon tech, thanks to a newly-signed patent agreement between the Japanese camera company and Microsoft, who recently bought Nokia.

This week's Apple news has been dominated by the rumored Beats acquisition, but it's in the area of photography where the company made some real confirmed strides.

When DxOMark tests out the quality of mobile phone cameras, they usually classify and rank them as such. There's a whole mobile section to the site where one can compare different smartphone cameras using a different scoring system.

The thing is, the Lumia 1020 is no typical smartphone. Nokia has touted it as a camera first, and it seems DxOMark was listening. When they put the Lumia 1020 through its paces, they tested it as a full-fledged camera. And it didn't perform half bad.

Most everyone is familiar with knockoffs -- some might even own a couple -- but when it comes to the world of tech the general wisdom is to stay far away. A Prado purse or Foakley sunglasses aren't going to be much of an issue, but a fake Canon speedlight can become a serious problem.

Of course there's a big difference between a knockoff and what's referred to as a KIRF (keeping it real fake) product, and the most recent fake we've run across is just that: a Lumia 1020 look-alike that boasts '41-megaplxels' of audio performance where the PureView camera should be.

Meant to tout the prowess of the Lumia 1020, it does a better job at showing just how close we've gotten to ridiculous when it comes to smartphone photography.

It works for politics, so why not consumer electronics? Nokia has decided to go negative with it's latest ad campaign, denigrating the quality of the iPhone 5 camera while lauding the photo features in the Nokia Lumia 925.

Nokia Lumia users now have a way to easily transfer images and videos to and from their devices with the freshly-released Photo Transfer application -- released today. That's not to say it wasn't simple to transfer normal photos in the past, however. Users have been able to use an app such as iPhoto previously to move images over to their computers, but Photo Transfer now allows for the transfer of additional formats.

After months of rumors about an "EOS camera," Nokia has finally announced its new Lumia 1020 photo-centric smartphone, a device that fuses serious camera functionality with the concept of a phone.

About a month ago, we got our first look at what is rumored to be the next big thing from Nokia camera-wise. Codenamed the 'EOS,' a few sources leaked IRL photos of the upcoming smartphone, showing off the bulging PureView camera module on the back and encouraging many consumers who believed that this would be Nokia's stateside version of the company's 808 PureView.

After The Verge broke the story this week about Nokia's dishonest promo video for its PureView camera technology, Nokia went into damage control mode. As its stock took a tumble, the company hired an internal ethics investigation into the matter, and took steps to turn the media's attention back to its revolutionary PureView features rather than the dishonesty seen in the video promoting them.

It also invited The Verge out to Central Park in NYC to do a hands-on test of the Lumia 920 camera, in an effort to show that the camera is worthy of the hype.

There's good news coming out of the Nokia camp if you live in the US and you've been wanting to get your hands on the 41-megapixel camera in the company's 808 PureView smartphone. Not only is the 808 itself now available to purchase on Amazon unsubsidized for $699, but the camera technology inside it may soon be available without the hefty price tag.

Scalado is a big name in imaging, having come up with some pretty phenomenal ideas like the Rewind and Remove apps -- the first of which made a big splash when it was demoed as part of RIM's BlackBerry 10. And now it seems someone is finally trying to move in and steal Scalado all for themselves: Nokia.

Those of you in the US who were salivating over the 41-megapixel camera in the Nokia 808 PureView were given a small ray of hope when you found out that the smartphone was possibly going to make it stateside unlocked. But if the camera was what you were pining for then you have no reason to fret, because according to Nokia USA President Chris Webber, future Lumia Windows Phones will be sporting the same tech.
