10 Best Camera Straps in 2024

We can spend hours poring over buying guides and recommendations for the fanciest, most expensive pieces of kit to complete our bag as photographers, but in all that excitement, there is one crucial piece of our arsenal that can be overlooked. It hardly qualifies as a bell or a whistle and no one will drool with envy at the sight of it, but it is absolutely one of the most important purchases you will make: the camera strap.

This Wedding Photographer’s Custom Strap was Made from a Bison

David Clumpner believes in using renewable natural resources. So, in addition to being a professional wedding photographer, he's also an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. That explains the camera strap he now brings to weddings: it was custom-made using the skin of a wild bison killed in Gardiner, Montana.

The Slim Strap by Custom SLR Features a Nifty Quick-Adjust Slider

Over the past 5 years, the San Francisco-based company Custom SLR has successfully launched 5 different camera products that all started with Kickstarter campaigns (the first was the C-Loop in 2010). Now the company has announced its sixth project: the Slim Strap.

It's a minimalist leather camera strap that's geared toward smaller mirrorless and compact cameras, featuring an elegant and durable design and a special quick-adjust slider that makes shooting a breeze.

Nikon Announces a New Black and Gold Leather Hot Shoe Cover

A few months ago, Nikon released a stainless steel hot shoe cover, the ASC-01, to help you spice up the look of your DSLR and protect its hot shoe mount contact points. Now, the company has released a new leather variation with gold writing. The ASC-02, as it is called, is only being sold in Japan for a price of ¥3,500 (~$28), but we're pretty sure it'll appear on eBay soon, just as the last model previously did.

When it comes to photography accessories, it may first appear that there is no other object in such mass production as the camera strap. Stopping by even the smallest store will present you with racks of options.

However, today, we are here to tell you about one of our favorite straps; it is not without its faults, but it stands up to the tests of PetaPixel comfort and quality. We are talking about an accessory from a small Portugal-based company, Nucis Leather and their ‘Simple Life’ camera strap.

Fuji UK Will Now Let You Customize Your X-Series Cameras with Different ‘Skins’

Fuji's retro-styled X-Series camera's aren't known for their customizability. In fact, it took a whole separate announcement for Fuji to release a black version of the X100s.

But now, users in the UK can go way beyond that with select models thanks to a Fujifilm X Signature program that will let you wrap your beautiful shooter in any number of different colored leatherettes.

New HoldFast Bag Lets You Tote Around Your Camera Inside Bison Skin

HoldFast Gear makes gear for photographers that you won't really find from other companies. Last year one of their big products was the MoneyMaker, a suspenders-style leather camera strap that looks like it popped out of an old detective film.

Today the company added a new eye-catching product to its lineup: the Bison Tote. It's a tote bag that's made out of bison hide.

Walnut and Cherry Wood Coverings for the Fujifilm X100

Remember the light brown leather X100 special edition announced by Fujifilm a couple of days ago? While those might come with a unique limited edition serial number, the look apparently isn't as unique. As a commenter pointed out, it appears to be a covering offered by a shop named Aki-Asahi Custom Camera Coverings. There are quite a few styles in addition to that look (which is named "Lizard Ochre"), including a couple of beautiful wood coverings crafted from walnut and cherry wood.

How to Make a Thread Wrapped Leather Camera Strap

I have a small obsession with cameras, also, a slightly smaller obsession with film cameras. My favourite camera is Lubitel 166B. It is a medium format camera, this basically means it has a large image area to capture photos, using the larger 120mm film. The Lubitel's were twin lens reflex (TLR) cameras. They have a little pop up cover on top, you then look down through the viewfinder. The nature of holding the camera like this will getting the settings set up for the shot can sometimes be a pain, so having a nice camera strap to hold it at the correct height, and nice and steady is a great idea.
