Canon EOS M Mirrorless Camera Specs Leak One Day Before Official Unveiling

Official product photos of Canon’s soon-to-arrive mirrorless camera — the EOS M — leaked late last week, and now the camera’s specs are following suit. Canon Rumors reports that the camera will feature an 18MP APS-C sensor, an ISO range of 100-12800 (expandable to 25,600), a 3-inch touchscreen, phase and contrast autofocus, autofocus during video recording, 1080p HD video, and various image enhancement features (twilight mode, creative filters, HDR, multi-shot noise reduction).

The system will also launch with an EF lens adapter, a new flash unit, and two lenses: the EF-M 22mm f/2 STM and the EF-M 18-55mm IS.

A French book titled “Obtenez le maximum du Nikon D800″ (translates to “Getting the most from the Nikon D800″) has popped up on Amazon and decitre.fr, possibly leaking details of an upcoming successor to the Nikon D700. The description is computer translated as,

Sold in August 2008 at a price of 2,800 euros, the Nikon D700 (top of the line) was a great success. He will be replaced in late 2009 by the Nikon D800. Among the improvements of the device: the doubling of the sensor, which increases from 12 to 24 megapixels. The D800 is likely to be sold between 2000 and 2500 euros. This book is a comprehensive guide to discovery, empowerment and development of the Nikon D800.

The book is scheduled to be published on February 9th, 2011, so if this is legit the camera should be announced prior to that date (i.e. in the next few months). The D700 has been out for two years now, so an announcement soon would make sense.

The retro FinePix X100 made a huge splash when it was announced a couple days ago, and now more details are being revealed. The beautiful camera will be available starting March 2011 at the price of around $1,000, quite a few pennies more than what many of us were hoping for.

Engadget got some hands-on time with a non-quite-functional pre-production model. They write,

[...] we were able to score some hands-on time with a pre-production model, and we have to say, this thing just feels like a thousand bucks. It’s as solid as a stone, though light packers won’t appreciate just how heavy it is. Regardless, the body exudes quality, and the grip was as comfortable as ever.
