Humor: 10 Videos of People Using Their Gear in Strange and Silly Ways

Back in the beginning of August, NYC-based camera superstore B&H Photo Video launched a lighthearted contest called “That’s Not What It’s Meant For!” It asked for videos of photographers and videographers using technology and equipment in unintended ways.

The submission phase ended recently, and now 10 wacky videos have been selected as finalists. Here they are for your enjoyment.

Portraits of the Bearded Men in an Ernest Hemingway Look-Alike Contest

Every year, in the third week of July, over 100 silver bearded men descend upon the city of Key West, Florida. Their goal: to be declared the man who most resembles American writer Ernest Hemingway. The contest they participate in is put on by the Hemingway Look-Alike Society, and is the largest sanctioned look-alike competition in the world.

Photographer Henry Hargreaves visited the festivities this year and created a new photo project titled “Becoming Hemingawy.” It’s a series of portraits showing some of this year’s contestants.

I’m an Award-Winning Photographer

When I was a kid, my school had an end of the year event all students were expected to participate in. They called it “Field and Track Day,” which was a fancy way of saying, “Okay kids, we’ve got to kill a mandatory school day, so we’re going to ship you all out to a local park, make you run around in the hot May sun for about 6 hours until you feel like passing out or puking, or both, and then send you home. Have fun!”
