Flickr user Alex12Ga turned his Canon 5D Mark II into a DIY digital view camera by mounting a Novar-Anastigmat 75mm f/3.5 lens from 1949 with its original bellows. He mounted the bellows to his camera using an aluminum plate and an EOS mount ring that he salvaged from a broken Sigma lens.

It’s no secret that Hollywood directors are using DSLRs more and more these days to film scenes that traditional bulky cameras can’t, but what’s interesting is that the cameras are often used from within the scenes filmed by the main cameras. A Canon 5D Mark II was mounted to the front of Tony Stark’s crashing racecar in Iron Man II, and was also attached to moving vehicles in the recent Captain America movie. The cameras are camouflaged to blend into the scene, but keep your eyes peeled (or watch the movie in slow motion) and you might just catch a glimpse of one!

The video recording quality of DSLRs has gotten to the point where you can slap them onto big fancy rigs and use them to film portions of big budget Hollywood movies without anyone noticing any difference. Iron Man was the first superhero in the Marvel universe to make use of the Canon 5D Mark II, and today it was announced that the camera was also used extensively throughout “Captain America: The First Avenger”.
[...] Action scenes in “Captain America: The First Avenger” in which [Second unit DP Jonathan Taylor] used 5D Mark II cameras for POV shots include a car chase and crash, and a high-speed motorcycle pursuit. The small size of the camera enabled Taylor to mount it on the interiors and exteriors of moving vehicles to capture dramatic action shots. The camera’s size also ensured that it was “invisible” to the film cameras shooting the same scene from a distance.
So basically, in certain scenes, a Canon 5D Mark II was actually recording from within the scene itself!

Here’s yet another painful-to-watch example of what the powerful lasers used at concerts can do to your camera’s sensor. This poor soul brought their Canon 5D Mark II to capture some footage, and left with the camera having a new feature: white “framing lines”! Too bad they can’t be turned off…
Unlike gamma rays when sitting in an airplane, concert lasers are definitely something you need to protect your camera from.

Apparently some people are becoming so rich through China’s economic boom that they’re using Canon 5D Mark IIs as ashtrays now. These are probably the same people that might use this Canon coffee table.
If you order a 5D Mark II off eBay from a seller in China in the near future and find that it smells strongly of smoke, this might be why…
Photographer Josh Owens spent a little over a month staying at various hotels in Manhattan and shooting stills a Canon 5D Mark II and two 7Ds. He ended up with over an hour’s worth of time-lapse footage, which he whittled down into this stunning 4-minute video showing Manhattan in motion.
Reddit user Bryce Hoeper recently broke an old Zeiss Ikon Contina L he purchased for $7 from Goodwill after it took a nasty tumble down some stairs. After being bummed for a while, he stumbled upon Timur Civan’s experiment with sticking a 102-year old lens on a modern DSLR, and decided to attempt the same thing. He spent a few hours taking apart the camera body to extract the lens, then super glued it to a Canon body cap that he cut a hole in, allowing the lens to be mounted to his Canon 5D Mark II.

Between late 2010 and early 2011, photographer Dominic Boudreault visited Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Manhattan, and Chicago, shooting gorgeous images of the cityscapes at night using a Canon 5D Mark II. The images were then combined into this beautiful time-lapse video showing the hustle and bustle of highways, sidewalks, streets, and rivers.

This time-lapse video was shot by Nate Bolt using a Canon 5D Mark II, a 16-35mm lens, a tripod, and an intervalometer on an Air France flight from San Francisco to Paris. The camera snapped a photo every 2-30 seconds throughout the 11 hour flight, roughly capturing one photo every two miles of the journey.
