Instagram printing company Printstagram has launched a new calendar product that allows you to turn your Instagram photo stream into a beautiful stack of 365 8.5x7cm “Polaroid” pictures.

Here’s a random but interesting piece of photo-related trivia: did you know that Kodak used a calendar that had 13 months? It was called the “International Fixed Calendar“, and was proposed by a guy named Moses B. Cotsworth in 1902. The system divided each year into 13 months of 28 days each, with one or two days each year not belonging to any month. The extra month was named “Sol”, and appeared between June and July. Although it was never officially adopted by any country, Kodak founder George Eastman became a huge supporter of the new calendar, and instituted it as the official calendar of Kodak in 1928. It would remain the company’s calendar of choice until 1989. Because of this, an alternate name for the calendar is “the Eastman plan”.

So, from time to time, I receive requests to use my images for various purposes — like on a blog or a pamphlet or a calendar or the side of a zeppelin or for a urinal cake. Typically, if they are nice and they’re not going to be making a load of cash off where they’d like to use my image then I’ll let them use it as long as they give me credit. I’m especially generous with environmental interests and non-profits and ice cream manufacturers offering vouchers for all-you-can-eat tours.
But then there are the chumps (and chumpettes) who will be making a substantial amount of money off of the use of my image and I send them packing unless they pony up a fair amount of money. The latest version of this repetitive saga really got caught all up in my craw and so I felt the need to write a bit about it.

Poladarium is a cool tear-off calendar that’s great for Polaroid enthusiasts looking for daily inspiration:

On the front of each calendar page there is a Polaroid, on the back there is a short description of the background to the photo and information about the photographer.

What would a calendar look like if the world was run by photography geeks? Photographer David Schloss woke up one morning with the idea of creating such a calendar, with days being incremented by 1/3 f/stops, and the year being ISO 2000. He’s also selling them as t-shirts for $15 a pop over on Mac Create.
If your wall needs decorating and you have a lot of time on your hands (and we mean a lot), you can try making a giant calendar for you wall with photos. All you need to do is go photo-hunting for numbers, days of the week, and filler squares. Then print out the photos as squares and arrange them on your wall based on the current month.
While shooting the images and printing them out is a lot of work (and a lot of fun), updating the calendar every month is what will be extremely time-consuming in the long run. However, if you’re up for it, this is a fun and creative way to spice up your wall with photo awesomeness.
