In this article, I will share a behind-the-scenes look at how I created photos of fried chicken for one of the world’s most iconic brands: KFC.

My studio had already been shooting nearly all of KFC’s print work for more than a year when their in-house creative group first contacted us. Turns out they found us through a Google search, and didn’t even realize we had done work for KFC until they saw some of the images on our website.

Photographer Benjamin Von Wong likes to push the boundaries of what he does, and lately that pushing has involved playing with fire … literally. It seems he’s taken a liking to working with pyrotechnicians and creating out of this world long exposures doing it, so after a speaking engagement in November of last year, Von Wong put together an open photo shoot with pyrotechnician Andrey DAS and fashion designer Virginie Marcerou.

Anyone and everyone was invited, and in all they were able to get a group of about 50 people to show up as they lit up the freezing night with everything from smoke grenades, to sparklers, to ropes of fire.

For its H5D ad campaign, Hasselblad approached underwater photographer Henrik Sorensen, knowing that he would put together something worthwhile. What he came up with is a “twisted take” on Denmark as a fairytale country that he’s calling “Not Just a Fairytale,” and the above video takes us behind the scenes at the underwater shoot. Adventure photographer and Nikon ambassador Kamil Tamiola of Alpine Photography recently shot a project titled “Cascades of Light.” He traveled to the Cascate di Lillaz icefall in Cogne, Italy with professional ice climber Jeff Mercier.

His goal was to capture adventure images of ice climbing in a different light — literally. Instead of shooting with natural light, he decided to light the scene artificially during both night and day.

Up. That’s all you need to say. Last November, we took on a project with Wired UK magazine to photograph Richard Branson’s latest venture in attempting to conquer the final frontier: space. We spent the good part of a week in the deserts of New Mexico and California, photographing the spaces and places, the infrastructure, the people, and ultimately Sir Richard himself.

One of the big emerging ideas in the camera world is the idea of wearable cameras that automatically capture your memories for you. Memoto is the wearable camera project that caused the biggest splash in 2012, but a month before it was announced, there was another camera that made a quieter entrance. It was the Autographer, a camera shaped like a pack of gum that uses a number of different sensors to intelligently snap photos during interesting moments in your life.

To demonstrate its potential for documenting life’s memories, the company asked renowned photographer Rankin to document a photo shoot using its prototype cameras.
