Paris Museums Put 60,000+ Historic Photos Online, Copyright-Free

Paris Musées, a group of 14 public museums in Paris, has made a splash by releasing high-res digital images for over 100,000 artworks through a new online portal. All the works were released to the public domain (CC0, or "No Rights Reserved"), and they include 62,599 historic photos by some of the most famous French photographers such as Eugene Atget.

Every Moon Photo Shot by Apollo Astronauts is Now on Flickr

Want to browse the entire collection of photos captured on the moon by Apollo astronauts with their chest-mounted Hasselblad cameras? You can now do so right on Flickr.

The Project Apollo Archive has uploaded over 8,400 high-resolution scans of photos shot by Apollo astronauts during trips to the moon.

Visualizations Provide a Deeper Look Into a Historical MoMA Photo Collection

The Thomas Walther Collection at the Museum of Modern Art is a set of 341 photographs by 150 artists captured from between 1909 and 1949 -- a period in which photography "came of age."

If you'd like to explore this collection of images on a deeper level, the museum has created a fantastic new tool for doing so that's "unprecedented in its functionality". It's called "Object:Photo," and is a special website loaded with information, images, and interactive visualizations.

Visit the World’s Oldest Photo Museum Through Google Art Project

Opened in 1949, the George Eastman House in Rochester, New York is the world's oldest museum dedicated to photography. It's world renowned for its collection of more than 400,000 photos and negatives dating back to when the medium was first invented.

If you would like to check out some of the museum's photos but can't make the trip out to Rochester, there's now a sleek new way for you to browse the imagery. The museum announced this week that it has become the first photo museum to join the Google Art Project.
