Diving Into the Numbers: Is the Canon 7D Mark II as Bad as DxOMark Says it Is?

After much anticipation and positive initial reports about the new Canon 7D Mark II, DxOMark’s review of the camera’s sensor was met with some shock. According to their tests, the Mark II’s sensor was on par with the 5-year-old Nikon D300s, and even fell behind smaller Micro Four Thirds sensors — not good.

OK, I have to admit I really like the 7D Mark II. I didn’t want to because it wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted to see the new Canon chip foundry that would be cranking out high-resolution sensors. But despite wanting to hate the 22-megapixel APS-C camera, after a fairly short exposure to the autofocus system, I have to admit I like it. Canon Publishes Official Sample Photos from the Long-Awaited 7D Mark II

There probably wasn’t a camera as highly anticipated and talked about this year as the new APS-C flagship Canon 7D Mark II, and now that it’s official, people are clamoring to see how it performs so they can decide if it’s worth pre-ordering the camera ahead of the November release.
