Voigtlander Releases a New 40mm f/2.8 M-Mount Lens…That Can’t Be Used with M-Mount Cameras

Photokina brought about a plethora of new gear from a number of companies, and easily overlooked among the larger announcements was a quirky new lens from Voigtlander: the 40mm f/2.8 Heliar M-mount lens. And the interesting thing about this new pancake lens is that even though it’s an M-mount piece of glass, it’s not compatible with M-mount cameras.

Phase One Announces 40mm-80mm f/4–5.6 Lens for Its Digital 645 System

Canon Going the Way of the Pancake, 40mm f/2.8 Coming in June

Pancake lenses are becoming quite popular in the industry, especially with smaller mirrorless cameras, as their small form factor allows for greater portability. Canon will soon be jumping onto the pancake bandwagon with its EF line of lenses. Canon Rumors reports that Canon will be announcing a small, thin, and light EF 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens that should cost less than $300. Expect to see the lens announced next month along with the new Rebel T4i and a new EF-S 18-135mm IS II lens.

Nikon Unveils the NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G Macro Lens for DX Cameras

Nikon has just announced the new AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G lens, which has a FoV equivalent to a 60mm on a full frame body. It boasts a minimum focusing distance of just 6.4 inches, and has a reproduction ratio of 1:1.
