Tamron Teases a New Versatile Zoom Lens for Sony E-Mount

Tamron plans to keep expanding its lineup of excellent full-frame Sony E-Mount lenses. In a teaser released earlier this morning, the company showed off what looks to be a versatile zoom lens that will (rough translation) “delicately depict any scenery.”

Unfortunately, we don’t have much information. All we know is what we can glean from the short teaser video below, the blacked out “Coming Soon” image above, and the information on Tamron’s new Sony E-Mount webpage. On that page, which was launched alongside this teaser, Tamron re-iterates all of the key features of its E-Mount series of lenses:

  • Lightweight and compact
  • Short minimum object distance with relatively high magnification ratio
  • Unified 67mm filter thread across the full range
  • Designed to take full advantage of Sony’s full-frame mirrorless cameras

So whatever this lens ends up being, it’ll be lightweight & compact, have a short MOD, and use a 67mm filter thread. It also seems to have a locking switch on the righthand side, similar to the recently released 70-180mm f/2.8.

You can watch the short teaser for yourself below:

That’s all we know so far, but keep your eye on the Tamron USA website for more updates soon. Once Tamron launches one of these teasers, an official announcement usually isn’t very far off.

This could be an affordable variable-aperture kit lens of sorts, but our hope is that Tamron is working on an ultra-versatile 24-105mm f/4 or, better yet, something like a 24-120mm f/4. That would be one heck of a do-everything travel zoom.
