Candid Photos Reveal the Mess Behind those Perfect Instagram Food Photos

In a creative and refreshing new campaign, British designer and retailer Wren Kitchens teamed up with 5 popular parent bloggers to show the world the mess behind those perfect Instagram food photos. The campaign is called A Kitchen Lived In: Perception vs Reality.

It’s so easy to forget just how tailored and manicured people’s online personas frequently are. These perfect Instagram photos, especially for parents, present a daunting picture of perfection that is just impossible outside the boundaries of that 1080 x 1080-pixel square.

That’s the message Wren Kitchens wanted to send with this campaign. “Parenting bloggers are particularly pressured to perceive themselves as the perfect parents with the perfect life and the perfect kitchen on their blogs,” they explain. “Therefore we decided to enlist the help of 5 influential parenting bloggers to hear their view on this, and for them to show us their true reality behind the ‘perfect family’ perception.”

Bridie By The Sea, Californian Mum in London, They Grow So Quick, Budding smiles, and Working Family Food each contributed a photo. Behold the perception vs reality:

You can read the story behind each photo on the Wren Kitchens blog, but suffice it to say it takes a lot of work and the occasional pacifying of a screaming toddler to get the “perfect shot.” Well, that and some skillful cropping.
