How to Transform a Bad Snapshot Into ‘Fine Art’ with Lightroom

You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear… or so the saying goes. And while that saying definitely rings true for photography, it doesn’t mean you can’t turn your crappy snapshots up a few notches with some carefully selected adjustments.

In this video, Swiss photographer and YouTuber YuriFineart shows you how he took a bland snapshot and turned it into a “fine art” looking black and white image. Scroll down and hit play to see how he does it:

Obviously, the final product is not all of a sudden a beautiful image. There are still issues, and to reiterate the idiom, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear—but the final image is significantly nicer than the original snapshot.

Does that mean you should go digging through your discard pile and try turning each of those images into “fine art black and white photography“? Maybe… But the better reaction might be to simply think twice before you chuck a photo in the first place. You might just salvage one or two of them.
