BTS: How To Simply and Effectively Light a Fitness Shoot with Three Lights

Photographer Miguel Quiles recently created this quick, informative behind-the-scenes look at how he shot an impressive set of fitness photos using just three lights in a fairly small studio setup.

The three-minute video comes off a tiny bit like a commercial for Photoflex, but commercial value aside, it offers some great information on how to make the most of a small space and a fairly simple setup.

After opening up the video with an introduction of the lighting gear, Quiles dives into the setup, explaining the positioning of each light and what purpose it will serve for the final images.

From there, he goes into the details of the shoot itself, speaking on the importance of props and their location, as well as how to draw the right emotions from your model to reflect the final ‘feel’ you want your images to have.

Granted, you might not have three strobes, lighting modifiers and an empty studio lying around; but the principles of this behind-the-scenes cross over into almost any situation.
