Colorized Photos of Hong Kong Seek to Reintroduce You to the City’s Rich History

Typically, colorizers focus on famous images. Photos like the V-J Day kiss photo from Times Square, or historic portraits. Honk Kong resident and Photoshopper Victor Liu’s focus is more specific. His new project is all about Hong Kong, and he’s hoping that his colorized images will encourage others to rediscover the city’s past.

“I was inspired by some other colorization websites such as History In Color,” he told us over email. “Hong Kong, a city that never sleeps, has always been eager to embrace the future by replacing the old with new. Most people has neglected and forgotten what it once was.”

The images he edits for Colourised Hong Kong — thus far all old LIFE images — seek to remedy this:

The project is still in its infancy, and so the images above are the only ones that Liu has gotten to thus far. But he promises to upload one or two new colorization per week, each better than the last as he sharpens his retouching skills.

To follow along as Liu breathes color into more of Hong Kong’s past, head over to the Colourised Hong Kong website or give the new project a follow on Facebook.
