But there is an end-of-the party air to many of his pictures — even those of people just arriving in town. They seem bleary. Some are bleeding. And it is not clear that they could explain what had happened to them. Few seem to be having much fun. Jonathan Jones, describing Mr. Wallace’s work in The Guardian, spoke of desperation. “What awful grim reality are the revelers in these photographs running away from?” he wrote.
