Self-indulgence is embarrassing. If someone asks you what you do and you say “artist”, you look like a pretentious a**. Saying you are a photographer at least partly masks the fact that you are a pretentious a**.
It is an interesting interview, however, the use of “sending
postcards” as an analogy to sharing photographs on Instagram totally
ignores a very significant difference: Magnitude. The number of
postcards sent in one year might have been the equivalent of
Instagram uploads in a few hours. Another difference is the cost
which became the income for someone else and paying that cost showed
the “commitment” the sender had to the idea of communicating with

more efficient but there is a significant piece of information
missing from a 1/200 second slice of life like what happened before
or after. No wonder verbal communication skills are diminishing.
