Aladdin’s Cave: A Look Into The Workshop of “The Camera Magician”

If you think your camera collection is impressive, you might want to check out the camera shop of Harry Mueller. Deemed “The Camera Magician,” Mueller’s shop holds over 4,000 cameras at any given time.

From SLRs to rangefinders, if you can think of a camera from the days past, it’s likely been in the shop to be tweaked, adjusted, repaired, cleaned, or completely reconstructed. The above video put together by Florian Dournes takes a five minute look at his shop, with Mueller giving some commentary via interviews throughout the piece.

It’s an extremely interesting watch and so long as you don’t mind reading subtitles, it’s sure to be worth it.

I was taken aback that he was French. With the last name of Mueller I assumed he was German. That aside, craftsmen and mechanics such as him will soon be a thing of the past. Everything today is made to be thrown away with built in obsolescence being a prime requisite for almost all manufactured products.
