A funny thing happened on the way to the future — the entire camera industry got blindsided. Camera and lens sales suck, have sucked for a while, and likely will continue to suck for some time to come. The question is — why?
Each time I read some of the recent articles from Michael Reichmann I have an impression he lives in an alternative universe. He reads the same data I do and gets vastly different conclusions. Last two years were brilliant when it comes to innovation and photography – on all fronts: DSLRs, Mirrorless, Compacts – tons of stuff to be excited about, constantly makes me wish I would be a millionare and could afford all of this great gear. What Reichmann sees? Technology plateaued.
How about that Michael: It’s not that technology plateaued, it’s your passion.
I stopped visiting LL because I got sick of reading about how many times he kept upgrading digital backs and stuff. He’s so far out there I realized that he’s only speaking to a very small group who can afford the luxury of constant medium format digital back upgrades, and crazy trips to the Arctic. Somehow I doubt that he’s got his pulse on the typical day-to-day shooter.
