The Photo Bus Takes to Kickstarter to Make Sure It Keeps Running for Years to Come
Just over a year ago, we featured an awesome project by photographer John Deprisco called The Photo Bus. Combining his passion for vintage vehicles (particularly VWs) and photography, Deprisco created quite an incredible combination that put a photo booth inside of a VW bus.
However, as you would expect with vehicles about to hit the ripe age of fifty, it’s a matter of when, not if, these machines are going to start breaking down. So, to make sure April (the red vintage bus) and Mary Luo Blue (the blue restored bus) live as prosperous of a life as possible, The Photo Bus team has created a Kickstarter to raise funds for consistent maintenance on these two-of-a-kind beauties.
The Kickstarter has already met its funding goal with 12 days to go, but I’m sure the team would appreciate even more support from the photography community. 100% of the funds (post fees, taxes and rewards) will go directly into the repairs currently needed, as well as the inevitable repairs needed in the future.
The rewards start out at the $15 range, earning you a magnetic bottle opener and koozie, and continue up to the $5,000 range, which snags you an “anywhere event” (you get to choose either of the buses to come to an event of your choosing for 5 hours, anywhere in the 48 continental states).
Pledges in-between those two extremes will get you items such as coffee mugs, t-shirts, hoodies, posters, and more specific events, all branded and dedicated towards the endeavors of The Photo Bus, which we quite like and would love to see keep going on its merry way.

This Kickstarter isn’t just about our love story in and because of The Photo Bus… it’s about YOU, the VW fans… who love seeing these bread loafs on the road, YOU, the brides who are tired of the same old photo booth you saw at all your friends’ weddings, and YOU analog curmudgeons out there… you know who you are. The Photo Bus is our business. It’s also a huge part of our life. We need your help to keep these girls running well.
As of writing this, funding is at just over $11,250 of their $10,000 goal. With the support from the PetaPixel community, I’d love to see John, his fiancé Cate (who he proposed to in The Photo Bus) and his team raise a whole lot more before the campaign ends.
