Comic Genius: Matt Hoyle’s Funny Portraits of Funny People

If you haven’t heard of celebrity photographer Matt Hoyle‘s photo book Comic Genius: Portraits of Funny People, then you’re in for a treat. We’re talking about a book full of hilarious portraits of hilarious people that is being sold for a good cause… what more could you want?

This is a project that is a year and a half in the making and, as coffee table photo books go, there is nothing like it. Hoyle was granted ‘extraordinary access’ to the comic heroes of past and present, and together, Hoyle and each of these incredible comedians came up with portrait ideas that range from grin-inducing to gut-busting.

And as if that wasn’t enough reason to go out and purchase this book for the photography (or comedy… or both) lover on your Christmas list, 100% of Hoyle’s net profits are going to the charity Save the Children, which is dedicated to “creating lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world.”

Comedians came out of the woodwork for this project, from historically hilarious names like Mel Brooks and Carol Burnett to the comic voices of today like Tina Fey and Zach Galifianakis — even Kermit the Frog makes an appearance. Here’s a selection of photos from the book:

From the description on the book’s website:

Matt and the comic icons collaborated to create small humorous moments frozen by his lens — from zany and deadpan, to laugh-out-loud and contemplative.

With introduction by Mel Brooks, COMIC GENIUS: PORTRAITS OF FUNNY PEOPLE will stand as the definitive collection of those who’ve devoted their lives to making us laugh.
