external You Can Photograph in the NYC Subway System Without an ID —NYCLU

nycsubwayA federal judge has ruled that it’s unconstitutional for the New York City Transit Authority to require people using New York City’s subway system to carry identification.

This means photographers can take photographs in the subway system without fear of being arrested or having to show identification to police who question their actions.

The decision is in response to a 2011 lawsuit by a couple of photographers who were arrested in 2010 for taking pictures of subway trains.
