Amazing 5 Minute Commercial Shows a School Day in 1 Take

Update: Looks like the video was taken down due to a copyright claim. You can watch it here.

This is more related to filmmaking than photography, but it’s so creative that I just had to share: Gatorade recently released this 5 minute commercial featuring professional skateboarder Chaz Ortiz. What’s mind-blowing is that it captures the passing of a school day in one take. Any mistakes (e.g. Ortiz failing to land a trick) would have ruined the entire shot. You can find a behind-the-scenes video showing how it was made here.

    Okey, yes that was amazing.

Skip class and don’t recycle plastic?

  • Bas ter Beek

Wow, that is awesome. Keep those one-take shorts coming!

  • Munnjo

Actually he threw it in a recycling bin ;)

  • Munnjo

Small typo in your description – it’s Gatorade, not Gatorate

Thanks for all of the great posts.  Love the site.

Is it churlish to bring up Russian Ark at this point?

  • Michael Zhang

    Thanks Jonathan :)

  • Spencer Hopkins

I was going to say, it’s the Russian Ark of commercials.

  • Bud Johnson

    Very cool.
The county where I live made a very impressive one-take video that included more than 1,000 students, teachers, administrators, staff members and
    community partners representing 25 schools.
    It’s worth a view

He used a steadicam, but why does the video still look that ‘messy’? What a shame :(

It’s been set up incorrectly. Look at how the vest is hanging off the operator and the way he’s grasping the rig.

    Like Yoda or Morpheus said.

“There’s a big difference between owning a Steadicam and knowing how to operate one”

I actually teach Biology at the school this was filmed at.
