Olympus Gives Away 1000 PEN Cameras Oprah Style on JetBlue Flights

Last Friday, Olympus partnered with JetBlue for an Oprah-style giveaway: each of the 1000+ passengers traveling on Flight #001 from New York to Fort Lauderdale was given a newly-announced PEN E-PM1 Micro Four Thirds camera. The company documented the event using its own PEN cameras, and simply asked that everyone upload 20 of their favorite images captured to this website.

Perhaps if it was a flight full of photo-enthusiasts and the camera a top-of-the-line DSLR, the reaction would have been more enthusiastic.

1000+ customers on a single flight on a single day? Um, I think you misunderstood what they did, see, no commercial airliner in the US has anywhere near that capacity.

I think what they did was give out one to each of the (guessing here, but based on experience of plane size) 100-200 people on that flight and they plan to give out the rest of their 1000 units on other flights … ;)

I have an Olympus PEN E-PL1, and I just *love* the thing.

It’s a great option when I’m out with the family and don’t feel like carrying around my DSLR, while the image quality is fantastic.

If you watch the end of the video it says, “1 Flight, 6 Cities” so what they did is give everyone a camera that took that specific plane that day, which happened to be 5 flights which amassed to approximately 1,000 passengers.

I’m envious – I would have loved a Pen as my travelling camera (I generally shoot film) but had to go with a less expensive option. I still regret not splurging….

I’m not impressed with the image quality… looks like iPhone shots.
