Clouds Photographed Through an Open Plane Door 4 Miles Up

For his project “Cloud Collection“, photographer Rüdiger Nehmzow went about four miles off the ground and photographed clouds through the open door of the plane. With no glass between Nehmzow and the sky to muddy up the shots, the resulting photographs are absolutely stunning.

Check out more of Nehmzow’s amazing photos over on his website.

I used those same words when I shared it with some friends. It looks like concept art, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you see some kind of a sky movie spun up because of it.

Which airline? I’ll ask them to open the door for me next time but I suspect not every company does that.:)

  • Delacroix

It seems that those pictures are a mix of different view . Look at the fourth on the right and upper corner, this is a bad mix of clouds in photoshop, you don’ t have this strange opacity in real.

  • David Nagy

@Delacroix: I believe that’s a body of water back on earth you see in that photo, not a bed edit of the photo.

Simply breath taking. I am sure they were from different view points, that’s a good photographer. Beautiful!

These photos were made in Brazil!? (see the things written on the wall)
    Amazing! Beautiful pictures.

a big airplane can do it because it will lose cabin pressure and everybody who’s not wearing a seatbelt will fly out, and the air is too thin to breath so the other ones will die .. but a small plane can do it but as you see you need oxygen tanks :)

  • Jearoy_a

    cant* sorry my mistake

If that’s true, explain things like military C5 transports. They’re larger than most commercial people-movers, and the entire rear of the aircraft can open up to disgorge it’s cargo. This isn’t done at 4 miles up usually, but it’s possible, and it IS done. All you have to do is lower the cabin pressure in a controlled manner, (or don’t pressurize it in the first place) and have provisions for oxygen and the cold if you’re very high. You watch too much TV. The only time that what you refer to would happen is if the aircraft is fully pressurized and the pressure was lost all at once.

Gorgeous. Imagine all that when you look up at the sky.

Love this, all of them are incredible but I especially love the first and second photos.

I’d say it’s because this particular plane was only 4 miles up…

And to think he could’ve just cleaned the glass and attached a circular polariser to get the same results…
