How Badly Do You Want to Improve Your Photography?

Here’s a pretty inspiring video that poses a simple question: “how bad do you want it”? It’s from motivational speaker Eric Thomas’ “Secrets to Success” talk, meant to help people accomplish their goals, whether it’s “academically, financially, relationally”, etc… Definitely applicable to those passionate about improving their photography as well.

That comment “do you wanna be successful like you want to breath?” will stick with me.

This is absolutely terrible advice. “Do not sleep for 3 days, or sleep for opnly 3 hours/day.” Do this and your body/mind will fail you. You may see the “short term” success, but jeopardizing your health is detrimental in the long run. What is success without a life to enjoy it.

    This video/speaker should be banned.

If you want long term success, do your research, stay healthy, sleep properly so your mind and body regenerates. Give it the nutrition and rest it needs.

Again, this is an uneducated, unhealthy proposition for anyone to endorse. Moronic at best.

    Terrible repost. Terrible.

    PROMOTE HEALTH.

Yes, insane indeed. But if you sleep for only 3 hours/day, your footage might at least get as shaky as this one.

Self help BS. Desire is only part of the equation.

The core message here is similar to something I figured out a long time ago.  If you want a chance to succeed at something you need to make it a priority.  You need to want something bad enough that other things matter less, which is true and good advice.  The rest is a bit over dramatic.

    To quote Alan Moore:

“In order to be able to make it, you have to put aside the fear of
failing and the desire of succeeding. You have to do these things
completely and purely without fear, without desire. Because things that
we do without lust of result are the purest actions we shall ever take.”

Personally, I agree with this philosophy more than the one presented in this video.  It’s probably less likely to make me money though.

i don’t agree with the message 100% – I also think that you can’t realistically survive on 3 hours sleep etc. But as much as we need sensible advice on how to live life, I think we also need unrealistic advice like this to motivate us. I doubt Eric expects anyone to go out and live without sleep for days/months/years, but he would love people to want more, work harder, and push longer.
