Flower: A Concept Lens Cap that Blooms into a Lens Hood

We’ve shared a lens cap and hood hybrid here before, but this one is much nicer. “Flower”, dreamt up by designers Rhie Hyi Joong and Lee Sang Hwa, is a concept lens cap that blooms into a hood by simply turning a ring.

What do you think of the design?

I like the idea, anything to help me from misplacing lens caps.

Seems pretty clever to me. As long as it offers just as much protection as my standard cap, I’d use it.

Clever concept but can’t help thinking it would be quite flimsy on the hood when opened?

    looks quite delicate…

Very clever design! But looks quite fragile…

Looks like it would allow light leaks in through the “petals”

Are the petal sizes ‘tuned’ to the focal length of the lens? I can imagine serious vignetting occurring with most medium to short focal length lenses.

Reminds me a modified barn doors for a theatre lights.

You should explain me how to turn an helical wheel from a normal gear ? in this way, it is not possible, it will only force the wheel to the left or right !

There is a solution but it will be very fragile. !

What about lens filters? Can it cover those as well, or would one have to always be adding and removing filters (which could become a pain in the ass).

I see the same problem as Howard. There could be some serious vignetting going on here.

I like it in theory though. I am constantly misplacing my lens cap.

usefull to some people i guess

botten part’s funny. but seriously speaking tho, this is a good concept

Looks like something that’ll easily break.  It would be interesting to get some feedback from users of this lens cap.

shut up and take my money

stupid Idea anyway :S the mechanism might be smart but it looks n is to weak to protect itself from possible Impacts let alone the lens,n I bet its way more expensive then the normal and much more practical solid lens cap so wats the point?

    Err… nah. Fanx.
