Bruce Gilden Explaining Why He Shoots with a Leica

During a workshop in São Paulo, Brazil earlier this month, someone asked Magnum street photographer Bruce Gilden to explain why he shoots with a Leica. Here’s his response.

If you haven’t already, you should watch the behind-the-scenes videos we shared a while back of Gilden doing street photography in NYC and in Derby.

I believe a Leica is more expensive to fund than a kid as well.

Mine has a nasty E6 habit, 4 rolls in an hour can hurt =<

Given that the cost of a kid from birth through high school graduation is in excess of $220,000US in 2008 dollars (thus sayeth the U.S. Dept. of Agticulture), I would have to say that the $1400US I spent on my minty used Leica M4-P camera body is a bargain.  Of course, a good used 50mm f/2 Summicron wolud add another $1000-1200 to that price.

Still a bargain compared to a kid.
