I’m pretty sure it’s a joke. But still, a question remains, why is a 35mm film SLR priced that high? Can’t you easily get into medium format for less than this?

Because it’s a very danged precise piece of electro-mechanical engineering and fabrication, and now has a limited market. And, it’s a Nikon.

A good digital MF camera is running in the multiples of 10k.
