Street Photography with Scott Schuman, aka The Sartorialist

Here’s a short and very interesting behind-the-scenes documentary with Scott Schuman, who has made a name for himself in the fashion industry by roaming the streets of big cities, capturing beautiful photographs of fashion, and publishing them to his website The Sartorialist.

This is really great. Anyone know the lens he’s using?

Never mind, it looks like the 85mm 1.2L.

I am not sure how this is street photography. He is telling people what to do, where to stand and even what direction to look at. Just because a photograph is taken outside on the street doesn’t qualify it as street photography.

    Great video! Thanks for sharing.

I actually felt a little bit betrayed when that turned out to be an Intel ad.

Absolutely correct. It’s not street photography. He is a fashion photographer and therefore subjects are flattered to be asked. Good for him for making it a success. Certainly less disturbing than a Bruce Gliden type street shooter where subjects feel attacked.

I feel it “counts” as street photography.  He’s taking photos of people he happens to encounter on the street; it doesn’t appear staged or controlled.
