Explanation of Content Aware Resizing

You might have seen examples of Photoshop’s Content Aware Scaling feature in action, but do you know what goes on behind the scenes that allows it to magically work? This presentation from the SIGGRAPH 2007 conference sheds some light on the technical mojo that allows you to manipulate the size and shape of photos in crazy ways.

The same concept is found in the Liquid Scale app we featured a while back.

I hate stuff like this, my image is meant to be this big or look this way. Don’t edit my picture to be something its not. editing it out of my control.

i hope something like this NEVER comes to web browsers.

This thing is interesting to look at. It can be a great tool for designers and artists, but as Lloyd pointed out, an artist may not like his creation to be resized by someone else.

I personally feel that giving more and more such choices to the user is always better.

Adobe hired them and licensed their tech for Content Aware Scaling.
