Secret Police “Pinhole” Camera Shoots Through Walls

Secret Police Pinhole Camera Shoots Through Walls stasicamera

Randomly came across this camera today on Wikipedia in the article on Stasi, the secret police of East Germany. Apparently it’s a “quiet” camera that was able to capture photographs through 1mm holes in walls. Now that’s a pinhole camera.

If you see anyone carrying this thing around, be very alarmed.

Those style of pinhole lenses are still widely available and being used by law enforcement and perverts daily, only with standard security cameras attached.

“Is that a camera in your pocket or are you just very happy to see me?”

1mm is actually kind of big for a pinhole. Holes half that size are common.

I think my doctor has been using something like this.

    from the source:
“Damit war es möglich durch ein Loch von 1 cm Durchmesser zu fotografieren.”

    not 1mm… 1cm(!!!)

Yeah, saw that too. All the other captions on Wikipedia say 1mm though, and that hole on the lens looks like 1mm rather than 1cm =P

well, proportional to the lens (and the lense isnt small) the hole seems really just do be a 1 cm, but 1mm sounds of course more realistic as 1 cm ^^
